While not specifically targeting drought assistance, the RFCS program aims to provide information and support to people in rural Australia by improving access to services, identify ways to become self-reliant and better equipped to manage change and adjustment.

Our Rural Financial Counsellors are experienced in working with rural clients to achieve positive outcomes.

Rural Financial Counsellors aim to:

  • Help clients understand their financial and business positions
  • Help clients understand their financial and business options
  • Improve clients' abilities to plan operations, achieve realistic goals and identify risks
  • Help clients complete action plans to address industry adjustment and climate change pressures
  • Connect clients to information about government and industry assistance
  • Refer clients to accountants, agriculture advisers and other relevant professionals, as required
  • Refer clients to professionals for succession planning, family support and personal (social and emotional) counselling, as required
  • Assist clients to indentify their advice and training needs
  • Apply a planned approach to providing clients with a holistic and achievable outcome.

While Rural Financial Counsellors can not provide financial advice, they give you the tools to make informed financial and business decisions.

Issues a Rural Financial Counsellor can help you with:

  • Analysing your cash flow and viability
  • Preparing budgets, and profit and loss statements
  • Identifying areas of risk in your business
  • Improving your ability to plan your business operations
  • Indentifying government assistance you might qualify for
  • Completing action plans you may need to develop to receive grants or income assistance
  • Indentify any advice and training you may need

It is important to note that rural financial counsellors DO NOT provide advice on:

  • Legal, financial, accounting or taxation aspects or influence decisions on financial products
  • Social, psychological or family counselling
  • Recommendations for particular or best options
  • Technical or agronomic advice

*'Small rural business' means a rural business that employs no more than ten full-time-equivalent (38 hrs per week) employees and provides the majority of its services to primary producers and is directly involved in primary production (eg fencing, harvesting, spraying or stock management contractor).
